The artistic expression reveals the interiority of man, speaks of the way of being and the vision of each one and their world.

In gestalt art therapy,  experiments are used through artistic and imagery resources, which usually involve artistic making, helping to intensify the individual's contact with himself, with others and with the world.

Through this art-making and self-expression, the therapist can establish contact with the client, enabling the latter to gain self-knowledge, resolve personal and relationship conflicts, and general personality development.

The gestalt-art therapist cannot interpret the works of his clients, because the gestalt-therapy believes that the client is responsible for his health and his growth process, and that his works and creations have relevant meanings and particular meanings for those who produced them.

Thus, the therapist plays the role of facilitating and accompanying the client's search, suggesting experiments that contribute to help him get in touch with his inner realities and, in this way, discover new meanings.

The experience of the creative act promotes the discovery of feelings and personal qualities, helping to develop the peculiar potential of each individual, which in the various types of art, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, theater/performance, poetry, etc., can recognize yourself, you can see yourself and also review yourself, seeing yourself in a new way by visualizing possibilities that until then were ignored.

The creative act is a human need, and the essence  of the creative process is change. A terapia é um processo de transformação, e a arte viabiliza a necessidade de deepen and broaden our psyche. The two together potentiate the perception, consciousness and creation of the new.

art and zen

"No line you draw needs to be perfect. On the contrary, you should keep drawing clumsy lines. Of course, little by little, you will improve your lines, and it would be illusory to think that you will suddenly become experienced. So, even if the line is imperfect or doesn't look right, the act of drawing a line is complete. Regardless of how the product looks, we become free from the pain of having to realize or create something perfect.

If life is to have a goal, as soon as that goal is achieved, another goal appears. Most of the time, we are anxious to accomplish goals. However, if we start to enjoy every step of the way, it becomes a goal. Thus, we can greatly improve the state of relaxation and the depth of our life."
